After signing the contracts, the value of which is RSD 50 million, Brnabic reiterated that environmental protection is one of the priorities of the Serbian government.
She pointed out that Kosjeric is one of the most polluted cities in Serbia and announced that the state, in addition to gasification and afforestation, will also subsidise the transition of individual fireplaces from coal and wood to pellets.
The Prime Minister stated that the inter-municipal cooperation with the City of Uzice on wastewater treatment was also discussed at the meeting with the municipal leadership, noting that this is another big problem that must be solved in the coming period.
Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic, who signed contracts with the president of the municipality Zarko Djokic, pointed out that this is the beginning of solving the decades-long problem of air pollution in this city.
Vujovic specified that afforestation with 500 new seedlings in Kosjeric is planned, and added that, when the City Heating Plant switches to gas, the boiler rooms of schools, sports halls and the Health Centre will be connected to it.
According to her, that will reduce air pollution by 70 percent, while there will be ten times less carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide in the air.
President of the municipality Zarko Djokic expressed his gratitude to the government and the Ministry of Environmental Protection for their help, emphasising that he is convinced that the residents of Kosjeric will breathe cleaner air next winter.
During the visit to Kosjeric, Brnabic, together with Minister of Economy Andjelka Atanaskovic, visited the ITN company that bought "Budimka" from Pozega.
We talked about what we can do additionally to help expand the capacity and equipment in order to strengthen the competitiveness of this company, which revived "Budimka" and employed 90 workers, the Prime Minister said.
She underlined that the government is determined to support the local economy and that in Kosjeric, where unemployment is slightly above five percent, a new level of development and the retaining of young people in the places where they were born must be reached.
