The high-level dialogue was opened by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. During several panels, a large number of world leaders and representatives of international organizations addressed video messages, including the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark Meta Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Belgium De Croix, Austrian Chancellor Kurz, IMF Director Georgieva, the presidents of Poland, Portugal and Turkey and many others.
The dialogue was organised to discuss activities at the global level to achieve Goal 7 of Sustainable Development – Affordable and Renewable Energy, to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Brnabic said in a video message that among the key priorities of the government of Serbia are environmental protection and green transition.
When it comes to environmental protection, Brnabic said that the priorities are improving air quality, solid waste management and wastewater treatment. Serbia needs to invest a lot in order to reach the highest EU standards in this area, the Prime Minister pointed out and especially singled out the area of wastewater treatment where it is necessary to invest six billion euros.
In parallel, Brnabic said, Serbia has begun a green energy transition, and the focus is on renewable energy sources, but also on changing the legal framework to enable more investment.
We have adopted a new Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources, which enables greater involvement of citizens in the entire process, so that citizens will practically be able to be producers by being able to install solar panels on roofs, Brnabic emphasised.
Also, for the first time in Serbia, we adopted the Law on Climate Change, which sets goals for sustainable development in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda, the Prime Minister pointed out.
The Prime Minister said that the goal is to use innovations, technology and creativity as much as possible, in order to make this transition more efficient, and to include the whole society, economy and especially young people in this process.
What our focus is on how to apply artificial intelligence, big data analysis, geospatial planning, satellite imagery, to facilitate change and enable early warning mechanisms for floods, disasters, fires, and to be able to track the impacts of everything that happens. is happening, said Brnabic.
She also added that reforestation and landfill management will be among the priorities.
We all have a common challenge together, and that is to protect our planet, and the whole world is practically waiting for innovations that will help us win together in this fight for our planet, concluded Brnabic.
