Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Gordana Comic today called elections for members of national councils of 23 national minorities for 13 November.
She stated that members of the councils will be elected directly or through the electoral assembly.
On Sunday, 13 November, members of the councils of 19 national minorities will be elected in direct elections, while four minorities - Gorani, Macedonian, Croatian and Montenegrin - will be elected through the electoral assembly, she said.
The Minister called on members of national minorities to continue registering in the special voter list until 27 October, when the list will be closed and when it will be known exactly how many members of national minorities will participate in the elections for members of national councils on 13 November.
It is important that every member of the national minority voluntarily goes to his municipality and expresses a request to be entered in a special voter's list, so that he or she can freely choose his or her representatives in the national council, as well as that the national councils encourage enrolment in a special voter's list, the Minister underlined.
Regular elections for members of national councils of national minorities are held every four years, as long as the mandate of one composition of the national council lasts, according to the Law on National Councils of National Minorities.
The law stipulates that regular elections for members of all national councils, including members of the first composition of the national council, are held simultaneously, that is, on the same day.
There are two ways of electing members of national councils - through direct elections and through the electoral assembly.
