Cooperation with GIZ improves social protection in Serbia

Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Nikola Selakovic pointed out today that the joint project "Social Protection Services for Vulnerable Groups" of the German Organisation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the relevant ministry has significantly raised the level of social protection in Serbia, primarily at the local level.

At the final conference of the German-Serbian development cooperation project "Social Protection Services for Vulnerable Groups", Selakovic assessed that the project, which has been implemented for the last five years, has produced excellent results.

The Minister pointed out that the most significant results of the project are that it strengthened the normative-legal framework in the field of social protection and contributed to the development of social protection institutions at the local level, which are in direct contact with citizens and competent to respond to their direct requests and questions.

Selakovic added that the project especially helped people with disabilities, who were given an increased number of services and various forms of assistance, which enabled them to stay with their families and not go to institutions.

Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Serbia Anke Konrad stated that her country is constantly encouraging its partners in Serbia to continue with social security reforms and that it receives very positive responses to that.
