Minister of Justice Maja Popovic spoke today with chief prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Serge Brammertz about the continuation of cooperation between Serbia and this mechanism.
Popovic pointed out that Serbia leads a responsible policy, the focus of which is the normalisation of relations and the building of trust in the region, which is a prerequisite for the stability and economic development of the countries of Southeast Europe.
For this reason, punishing war crimes and achieving justice is a priority of regional judicial cooperation, she pointed out.
The Minister particularly emphasised the need for the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals to approach the prosecution of persons responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law with equal commitment, regardless of which part of the former Yugoslavia the perpetrators come from.
