While touring the works together with Minister of Sports Zoran Gajic and Public Investment Minister Marko Blagojevic, Brnabic explained that Serbia has won 13 gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals, adding that volleyball is one of the most trophy-winning sports in Serbia.
The prerequisite for the continuity of those top results is that, once this centre is completed in May 2025, our athletes get the conditions worthy of world champions as well as their work and talent so that future generations can be as successful, the Prime Minister stated.
Sport in Serbia generally records good results. In the period from 2000 to 2011, the total number of medals won in Olympic and Paralympic disciplines was 156, while from 2012 to date, 341 medals were won in Olympic and Paralympic competitions, she specified, adding that this is an increase of more of 118 percent.
According to her, this is the result of dedicated work of our athletes and their teams as well as greater investment in sports.
Gajic stated that we are witnessing large investments in sports, the construction of several small stadiums throughout Serbia, whereas the construction of a large national football stadium is expected to begin, which will change the part of Belgrade behind Nikola Tesla Airport.
General Director of the World Volleyball Federation Fabio Azevedo said that this is a historic moment for volleyball because the National Training Centre will be a centre of excellence and a fantastic example for volleyball in Europe and the world.
The national volleyball training centre will span an area of 20.3 thousand square metres while the value of the project is €22.4 million. The deadline for the completion of the works is slightly less than two years.
The centre will have three training rooms, two beach volleyball rooms, accommodation facilities for athletes, accompanying sports facilities and associated office space, i.e., a medical centre, a gym, a sports clinic and two garages.
