Slovenia’s experiences in development of region valuable for Serbia

Minister without portfolio Edin Djerlek visited Ljubljana today and spoke with Minister in charge of Development and European Cohesion Policy Aleksander Jevsek about the possibilities of concrete institutional cooperation through joint projects and connecting the regional development agencies of the two countries.

Djerlek assessed that the experiences of countries like Slovenia, which has a well-developed and branched network of regional development agencies and efficient management of cohesion policy, are extremely important for Serbia.

Djerlek invited experts from Slovenia to visit Serbia, in order to transfer the rich experiences and mechanisms that the country already widely uses in the field of development of its regions.

Noting that our two countries, apart from good political cooperation, are important economic allies, Jevsek emphasised that we have similar demographic challenges, balancing development disparities, inequalities and creating equal opportunities for a better quality of life for our citizens.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Public Administration Sanja Ajanovic Hovni, who assessed that it would be extremely important to establish stronger cooperation between the ministries dealing with the areas of local self-government and regional development within the two governments.
