Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today in Dubai at the World Governments Summit that railways are the future of mobility and that, in a new investment cycle, Serbia will invest large amounts of money in this branch of transport.
In her opening speech at the panel discussion "Future of Mobility", Brnabic pointed out that the first phase of the construction of the high-speed railway from Belgrade to Budapest, which connects the two largest cities in Serbia, Belgrade and Novi Sad, has just been completed.
She stated that our country will continue to invest in high-speed railways, not only to connect Serbia, but also our country with the entire region - North Macedonia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro.
She emphasised that Serbia has made an effort to change laws in order to be at the forefront of the race in automated driving and that a few months ago it issued a level 3 license for a driverless vehicle and is now preparing to issue a level 4 and level 5 license by 2027, when we will host the specialised world exposition Expo.
By 2027, we want to present all state-of-the-art technology in Serbia as a country that is very competitive in this regard, Brnabic stated, adding that our country should learn and listen, and then see how it can apply innovative models and increase competitiveness and quality of life.
The Prime Minister assessed that Serbia could be the winner of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, specifying that our country has introduced programming and coding in elementary schools and specialised IT education, as well as that it has invested a lot in education, infrastructure for innovation, scientific and technological works and that excellent results have been achieved.
Eleven years ago, the annual export of our ICT sector was only €375 million. Last year it was €3.6 billion, and our goal is to reach €10 billion by the end of 2027, Brnabic said, pointing out that innovation plays a big role in that.
According to her, Serbia must have high-quality Internet throughout the country and that is why the government is investing €500 million so that by 2025 all households in the country could be connected to high-speed Internet.
