Serbia, EU sign Memorandum of Understanding on mineral raw materials

Belgrade, 19 July 2024

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović and European Commission Executive Vice-President for European Green Deal, Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight Maroš Šefčovič signed today the Memorandum of Understanding between the European Union and Serbia on strategic partnership on sustainable raw materials, battery production chains and electric vehicles.

The signing of the Memorandum in the Palace of Serbia was attended by Serbian government ministers, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, ambassadors of Italy Luca Gori, Germany Anke Konrad and USA Christopher Hill respectively.

Also, the Letter of Intent on the development of the e-mobility value chain in the Republic of Serbia was signed. This document was signed by Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarović, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso and member of the Executive Board of the KfW Group Christian Laibach.

The Letter of Intent was also signed by International Cooperation and Development Finance Director at Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Paolo Lombardo, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Ola Källenius and CEO of Rio Tinto Group Jakob Stausholm.

Also, the Letter of Intent was signed by CEO of EIT InnoEnergy Diego Pavia, CEO of InoBat Marian Boček and CEO of ElevenEs Nemanja Mikać.

These documents were signed as part of the Summit on Critical Raw Materials.
