During her address at the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, Macura pointed out that Serbia is focused on strengthening institutional mechanisms that enable the full engagement of women in all social spheres.
Macura underlined that women's economic independence not only affects economic growth, but is also a key element in the prevention of violence against women, since research shows that more than half of women who suffer violence remain in violent relationships due to financial dependence on their partners.
She also presented the results that Serbia has achieved in preventing and combating gender-based violence, including a 42 percent drop in the number of women killed in domestic violence in the past year, assessing that this is the result of joint efforts by institutions of the system, civil society organisations, and those to whom this topic is important.
