On that occasion, Vučević pointed out that the project of construction and reconstruction of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway is the best example of what is included in the programme of the government of the Republic of Serbia as "Leap into the Future", with the assessment that it will make Serbia a better place to live.
This is not only a matter of infrastructure works, which are very demanding and challenging, these are things that change the essence and appearance of Serbia. Things that will change Subotica and Bačka Topola, Kula and Vrbas, because it will take 80 minutes to travel by train from Belgrade to Subotica, the Prime Minister said.
He pointed out that 150 years ago, a railroad and a railway arrived in Subotica, and that city thus gained an additional quality and became, in the true sense of the word, a city in the then Austro-Hungarian Empire, while today, with the high-speed railway, Subotica is getting something new, which will contribute to even faster development, for people to stay in that city, for salaries and incomes to be higher, for businesses to develop better and for more tourists to be attracted.
According to him, this project means faster and safer travel, less time to travel from one city to another, from work to home or from home to school, and this all means more time for family and friends, children and loved ones.
Vučević emphasised that such large-scale infrastructure works directly increase the country's gross social product, thus creating space for raising salaries and pensions.
Therefore, this is not just a matter of railways, wagons and trains, this is the essence that brings the growth of wages and pensions and a better life. After the project comes to an end in Serbia, which is by the end of the year, we are waiting for our Hungarian friends to meet not far from here and to travel from Belgrade to Budapest in two and a half hours, the Prime Minister said.
He emphasised that this will be a new dimension of Serbia, noting that the beautiful railway station in Subotica is being reconstructed and that it is practically a cultural monument, and will also become a place of public life.
Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesić pointed out that he can proudly say today that the Novi Sad-Subotica high-speed railway is being completed and that it will be the fastest built high-speed railway in the world.
I am proud and happy for the great success of the Chinese companies working on this project, but also for us in the Republic of Serbia, because the railway, when it is completed, will be the fastest built high-speed railway in the world, taking into account the number of kilometers and construction time, he pointed out.
He also reminded that construction works began on 1 July 2022, and it will be completed on 30 July this year.
